Located in Ward 1, about 2km west of Ca Mau city center, Ca Mau Bird Garden belongs to Cultural Park or Lam Vien 19/5, an entertainment area of about 18.2 hectares with many miniatures including flower gardens, monuments, stilt houses and Uncle Ho's fish pond... This place also introduces to the public many species of creatures typical of mangrove forests such as crocodiles, turtles, monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons, snakes... especially the bird garden area attracts many visitors.
4 km from the center of Ca Mau city, follow Ly Van Lam street to reach the 19/5 bird garden. Every year, on the occasion of Tet, birds gather here as if they had made an appointment long ago. The scenery of the bird garden in spring is lyrical and poetic. In the afternoon, the chirping of friends, the flapping of wings stirs the whole forest.

Ca Mau Bird Garden
Ca Mau Bird Garden was built in 1995 but it was not officially put into operation until around 1997. Previously, the garden was managed by the Forestry Department, now it is under the provincial Department of Culture and Information. Through expansions, the park's area has now reached 18 hectares, of which the bird garden is 8 hectares. Mr. Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the 19/5 Bird Garden, said: "At its peak, it is estimated that there were about 10,000 birds, of which storks and cormorants accounted for 80%, the rest were herons and other birds".
According to Mr. Le Hong Manh, Deputy Director in charge of ornamental plants of the garden, rare birds in Ca Mau in general and in this bird garden in particular such as herons, banded pelicans, cranes... are very rare. Every year, there are about a few pairs of rare birds such as the sesbania sesban coming to lay eggs. Occasionally, there are also swiftlets flying back to gather.
At first, the Park had a forest area of about 2 hectares, which became bustling every afternoon with thousands of birds and storks flying back, and gradually other species of birds such as ducks, teals, and teals also came here to make shelter and breed. To meet the needs of the growing number of feathered residents, the Park expanded the forest to 6 hectares, including ponds and forests with many leafy canopies, and dense trees along the lake, creating conditions for the birds to gather and develop, while also fencing off a separate ecological area to protect the birds and the landscape.
If you come to Ca Mau city, this will be the closest and most interesting place to visit for all visitors. Only less than 6 meters from a ditch, visitors will witness with their own eyes tens of thousands of birds, storks, storks, teals, herons, ducks, waterfowl, etc. flying down to the crowded mangrove forests and bamboo banks. They dance, cuddle and play a “grand symphony” until the sun sets. This bird sanctuary has existed for decades and is always carefully and thoughtfully protected by the local people.

Ca Mau Bird Garden - famous tourist destination in Ca Mau
Perhaps the most impressive bird in this garden is the crane (also known as the crane). The crane is a sacred animal of the Vietnamese people, always a symbol in sacred places of worship throughout the country. In the past, there were many cranes in Vietnam. But since 1952, they have completely disappeared in the Dong Thap Muoi region. The disappearance of the crane species is probably due to the massive migration of humans and war, which changed the living environment, so they flew away. In early 1998, cranes gathered in large numbers in the Tam Nong cajuput forest, Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province. Among them is the very rare red-crowned crane. Unfortunately, the 19-5 bird garden also has a cajuput forest, but the cranes rarely stop here for a simple reason: cranes only live in balanced natural ecosystems.
For the people of Ca Mau, the bird garden is a source of pride. In the near future, Ca Mau will be the first city to have a bird sanctuary shared with residents. On holidays, especially during Tet, the bird sanctuary is filled with the laughter of visitors. In addition, within the Ca Mau bird sanctuary, there is also the Betel and Areca restaurant, chosen by many couples as the place to celebrate the most important day of their lives.
