Dat Cai Tau Strawberry Garden - Famous tourist destination in Ca Mau

Dat Cai Tau Strawberry Garden - Famous tourist destination in Ca Mau

For a long time, the place name Cai Tau has been known as the “kingdom” of the mulberry (or longan) in the Mekong Delta. In the subconscious of the people of U Minh, Cai Tau mulberry is both a specialty and a characteristic of the locality. Cai Tau mulberry is not only a normal fruit but also a sentiment, a deep attachment in the heart of each person for this fruit tree.

Many elderly people here said: Nearly a century ago, the mulberry tree was present on this land. This tree originated from the islands in the sea. At that time, seafarers brought the seeds back to plant on the mainland and people propagated the tree widely. Just like that, the delicious sour and strangely sweet taste of Cai Tau mulberry was quickly developed into a garden by the people of Nguyen Phich commune until today.

During the golden age of Cai Tau mulberry (before 1990), in Cai Tau (from Hamlet 1 to Hamlet 6, Nguyen Phich Commune), almost every household planted mulberry, at least a few trees for food, and at most a whole hectare. At times, in the home gardens of many households here, hundreds of mulberry trees that were decades old were planted, yielding tens of tons of fruit each year. Cai Tau mulberry is characterized by large, thin-skinned, juicy fruit, sweet, slightly sour, and a beautiful yellow color when ripe. Cai Tau mulberry blooms in late winter and ripens in late spring when the first heavy rains of the season begin, usually right around the April 30 - May 1 holiday every year. At this time in recent years, many visitors have come to visit and travel to the mulberry gardens.

With its inherent characteristics, the ground mulberry in Cai Tau has long been famous, favored by many people because of its elegant sweet and sour taste on the tip of the tongue. But the most enjoyable thing is still witnessing the clusters of ripe yellow mulberry swaying in the rays of sunlight through the leaves. Under the shade of the mulberry trees that are decades old is an ideal place for tourists to relax and picnic.

Cai Tau strawberry garden is located adjacent to U Minh Ha cajuput forest and along Cai Tau river, in Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province.
